Crews Hill is famous for its concentration of garden centres, nurseries and horticultural businesses — but they are not all the same. Some are large public garden centres, some are independent family-run destinations, and others are specialist trade or wholesale businesses. This guide is designed to help you decide where to start.
Major garden-centre destinations
Thompsons of Crews Hill
A landmark Crews Hill business combining a garden centre with soil, turf, aggregates, paving, building materials and specialist concessions. The main yard and paving area opens earlier than the garden centre, making it useful for both trade and public customers.
Springtime Nurseries
A long-established Crews Hill destination with plants, garden products, independent retailers, cafés and strong seasonal displays. It is one of the places where a straightforward garden-centre trip can easily turn into a longer browse.
The Gardening Club
A membership-based garden centre at Parkview Nurseries known for scale, plant choice and value. Public opening is currently 9am to 5pm daily, with earlier trade-only access Monday to Saturday.
Enfield Garden Centre
Part of British Garden Centres, this is one of the larger Crews Hill destinations, with plants, gardening supplies, home and gift ranges, outdoor living products, a restaurant and family facilities.
Culver Garden Centre
Culver is best thought of as a small business hub as well as a garden-centre site. Alongside horticulture, visitors can discover independent businesses covering garden buildings, fencing, crafts, cake decorating, bird care, ornaments and other specialist interests.
Browns Garden Village
A long-established Crews Hill site that brings together independent retailers, cafés, pet-related businesses, gifts, crafts and wellbeing services. It is particularly good for visitors who enjoy discovering several smaller businesses in one stop.
Woldens Garden Centre
Woldens is an independent family-run garden centre known for plants, personal service and horticultural knowledge. Important current note: it is on its seasonal summer closure and is due to reopen on 1 October 2026.
Botany Bay Farm Shop
A working farm and local destination on The Ridgeway. It offers a different side of the wider Crews Hill area, combining a farm setting with food, produce and community appeal.
Specialist and trade horticulture
Crews Hill also has an important trade and wholesale side. The Bests Wholesale Plants is trade-only; J. Van Vliet and Westflor serve the floristry and horticultural trade; Anglo Aquatic is a specialist aquatic-plant nursery whose current public opening hours are not published; and Cattlegate Farm and Equigrow operate more as working agricultural or commercial businesses than conventional walk-in garden centres.
That distinction matters. Crews Hill is not simply a row of retail garden centres — it is a working horticultural and land-based business district with public, trade and specialist activity sitting alongside one another.
A few practical tips before you travel
Opening times can change seasonally and smaller businesses may not keep the same hours as their host garden centre. If you are travelling for one particular specialist, check directly before setting off. Comfortable footwear is useful because the area is spread out and some businesses sit inside larger nursery or garden-centre sites.
